Passing Through . Home

Passing Through . Home is an interactive game-theatre work designed in response to everyday life during a residency in Anaguo. Drawing on their life in Anaguo and conversations and stories shared with villagers, Xiao Ke × Zi Han created this game-theatre work. Artists, scholars, and designers taking part in the Jiandi Residency Project enacted the game, while Anaguo villagers were invited to join the interaction as the “hosts of home.”

Following a map of Anaguo, Xiao Ke × Zi Han marked out the map on the floor of the Field School rehearsal hall. Villagers sat on the floor at the locations of their respective homes, waiting for the residency participants to make their way through the game. Rolls of the dice determined whether players moved forward or backward. Numerous questions and tasks were placed along the route; anyone arriving at a given point had to turn over a sheet of paper and complete the task or answer the question.
