Niao Niao Festival 2017 brought together performance, movement, sound, painting, and experimental live practices across two days at INSTANT. The programme moved between works of different lengths and scales, creating a shared situation for artists and audiences to gather, encounter one another, and remain in the space.
INSTANT is a PVC inflatable mobile theatre designed by Xiao Ke × Zi Han. It occupies a 16-by-16-metre footprint and stands 9 metres high. The theatre can be inflated and erected on an open site, a process that requires the collective effort of more than a dozen people. This temporary, mobile, collectively built theatre structure is Xiao Ke × Zi Han’s declaration and practice of artists’ autonomy, independence, and collaboration.
